Greyhounds Drop Landmark Conference Contest to Scranton

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball squad dropped a 69-51 decision to visiting The University of Scranton in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening.

How It Happened

  • The Royals netted the opening basket of the game before senior guard Kayla Yoegel drained a three-pointer as the Greyhounds took a 3-2 lead. Moravian led again at 6-5 after a three-pointer by junior guard Morgan Amy. Scranton answered with an 8-2 run to build a 13-8 advantage but the Blue and Grey got within a point at 13-12 on a lay-up from junior guard Ashley Robinson at the 2:43 mark. The Royals scored late to lead 17-14 after 10 minutes of action
  • Scranton netted the first five points of the second quarter before junior forward Emily Markowski drained a free throw. The Royals pushed their advantage to 25-15 before Yoegel made the Hounds' first field goal of the period with 2:49 on the clock. Moravian was limited to five total points in the second quarter as Scranton had a 31-19 lead at the intermission
  • Yoegel opened the scoring in the third quarter, and she would get the Blue and Grey with 10 points at 35-25 with a three-pointer. Scranton stretched the lead up to 17 points, and the Royals had a 53-39 edge after 30 minutes of play
  • Yoegel also began the fourth quarter with a jumper, and junior guard Jackie Kelly hit two lay-ups as the Greyhounds cut the deficit to eight points, 53-45, just 1:47 into the fourth quarter. However, the Royals responded and would move their advantage back into double digits for the remainder of the night

Inside the Numbers

  • The Greyhounds were led in scoring by Yoegel, who netted 19 points to go with three rebounds and two steals
  • Kelly tossed in nine points, and she also had three rebounds and a pair of steals while Robinson finished with eight points and three boards
  • Amy netted nine points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists while Markowski finished with four points, three rebounds and two assists
  • Sophomore forward Sam Osorio led the Hounds with 11 rebounds to go with three points while freshman guard Mikayla Anderson netted the first two points of her career to go with a pair of assists. Freshman forward Brielle Guarente had two rebounds and one point while sophomore forward Gracie Hezel had three boards and sophomore forward Sara Geary added two rebounds
  • Shooting was the key to the game with the Greyhounds making just 16-of-62 field goal attempts (25.8 percent) while Scranton was 28-for-65 from the floor (43.1 percent). Both teams shot 77.8 percent at the foul line with Moravian going 14-for-18, and the Royals made six three-pointers while the Hounds connected on five three-pointers
