Greyhounds Race Past Gophers for Landmark Conference Win

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball squad raced out to a 17-9 first quarter lead on the way to an 80-33 victory over visiting Goucher College in Johnston Hall Saturday afternoon in Landmark Conference action.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds scored the opening points of the game as junior guard Jackie Kelly hit a three-pointer to beat the shot clock on the first possession of the contest. The Gophers also hit a three-pointer on their first possession, and the score was also tied at 5-5 before the Hounds went on a 12-0 run to build a 17-5 lead on a lay-up from senior forward Kayla Yoegel. Goucher scored the final four points of the quarter as the Blue and Grey led 17-9 after 10 minutes of action
  • Sophomore forward Sam Osorio began the second quarter with a lay-up, and Moravian stretched the edge 23-9 before the Gophers scored their first points of the period. The Greyhounds would continue to extend the lead and head to the locker room with a 42-18 advantage after a late basket from junior guard Ashley Robinson
  • The second half would continue to see Moravian stretch the lead, holding a 62-23 edge after 30 minutes of action, and a game-high lead of 51 points, 74-23, with 6:23 remaining

Inside the Numbers

  • The Greyhounds had just one player in double figures as Yoegel netted a game-high 21 points to go with five rebounds and three steals. Robinson tossed in a career-best nine points, tied her career-high with five rebounds and dished out a career-best three assists
  • Sophomore forward Gracie Hezel tied her career-high with nine points to go with three rebounds and a pair of steals while Osorio had nine points, a team-high seven rebounds, three assists and three steals
  • Kelly finished with eight points and a trio of assists while sophomore forward Sara Geary tied her career-best with six points to go with a pair of boards and sophomore guard Rileigh Serroni also netted six points
  • Freshman forward Brielle Guarente added five points, six rebounds and a career-high three assists while junior forward Emily Markowski had five rebounds, three points and two assists
  • Junior guard Morgan Amy had four assists, two points and two rebounds while freshman guard Sydney DeFranco added two points. Sophomore guard Vicky Donovan contributed three assists and two rebounds while freshman guard Mikayla Anderson also had two boards
  • All 13 Greyhounds in uniform saw at least nine minutes of action and no one played more than 23 minutes
  • Moravian posted a 46-13 edge in rebounds including 12-1 on the offensive glass
  • The Hounds shot a season-high 57.6 percent (34-for-59) from the floor, and the Blue and Grey shot a blistering 71.4 percent (10-for-14) in the second quarter
  • The Greyhounds had a 48-8 in scoring in the paint, a 24-4 edge on points off of turnovers and a 16-0 advantage in fast break points
  • Moravian forced Goucher into 23 turnovers in the contest
