Moravian Sees Halftime Lead Slip Away in Non-Conference Loss at Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball team headed to the locker room at the intermission with a one-point lead over rival Muhlenberg College in Allentown Wednesday evening but a hot-shooting second half from the Mules led to a 79-60 defeat of the Greyhounds.

How It Happened

  • Muhlenberg opened the scoring while junior guard Jackie Kelly drained a three-pointer to put the Blue and Grey up 3-2. Moravian led 6-4 after a three-pointer from junior guard Madison Amy, and sophomore forward Gracie Hezel pushed the edge to four points at 8-4 with a lay-up. The Mules answered to take a 13-10 lead, however; a free throw by Hezel knotted the score at 13-13 after 10 minutes of action
  • Senior guard Kayla Yoegel put Moravian ahead to start the second quarter with a lay-up, and another three-pointer from Amy had the Greyhounds leading 18-15. Muhlenberg went on a 9-2 run to build a 24-20 edge before Yoegel helped the Hounds retake the lead at 25-24 with a three-pointer at the 4:26 mark. With just under a minute to play in the first half, junior guard Morgan Amy drained a three-pointer to send the Blue and Grey to the locker room with a 29-28 edge
  • Muhlenberg scored the first seven points of the third quarter to take a 35-29 lead just 1:06 into the second half, and the Mules lead 45-38 before an 11-2 run capped by a three-pointer from Madison Amy had Moravian back ahead 49-47 with 3:18 to play in the quarter. Muhlenberg answered with an 8-2 run to hold a 55-51 advantage after 30 minutes of action
  • The Mules scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter and had an 18-1 run over the first 7:06 of the period before Kelly hit a three-pointer at the 2:44 mark for the Greyhounds' first field goal of the fourth quarter. The Hounds were limited to nine points in the final 10 minutes while Muhlenberg shot 19-of-29 from the field and 7-of-8 on three-pointers after the intermission

Inside the Numbers

  • The Greyhounds had one player in double figures as Yoegel netted 20 points, her second 20-point game of the season, and Yoegel has had a pair of assists
  • Hezel tossed in a career-high nine points to go with four rebounds while Madison Amy had nine points and five assists. Kelly contributed seven points and five boards while freshman forward Brielle Guarente had six points and a team-high seven rebounds
  • Morgan Amy recorded five points, five assists and three rebounds while sophomore forward Sam Osorio had three points and two boards. Freshman guard Sydney DeFranco netted one point while freshman guard Anika Buzzy had two rebounds for Moravian
  • The Greyhounds shot 33.3 percent in each of the first two quarters before connecting on 57.1 percent (8-for-14) in the third quarter. The Hounds shot just 17.6 percent in the final 10 minutes
  • The Blue and Grey were not called for a foul during the third quarter and had a season-low 15 fouls called against them in the contest
