Hounds Suffer Conference Road Loss to Drew

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian University women's basketball team fell to Drew University, 78-51, in Landmark Conference action on Monday evening.

How It Happened

  • The Rangers scored the first four points of the night before senior forward Kayla Yoegel made a layup to get the Greyhounds on the board, 4-2. Drew pushed their advantage to six points with 7:34 to play in the opening quarter. Yoegel cut the deficit in half then
  • Sophomore forward Gracie Hezel converted a layup to bring the Blue and Grey within two points, 8-6. Moravian took their first lead of the game with a three-pointer by Yoegel and she tacked on a pair of free throws for a three-point edge, 13-10, with 2:56 remaining in the first quarter. Drew would hold a one-point lead after the first 10 minutes
  • Sophomore forward Sam Osorio opened the second quarter with a layup, followed by a jump shot made by freshman guard Brielle Guarente to give the Greyhounds another three-point advantage. Hezel put Moravian ahead of the Rangers once again with a basket to put the score at 21-20 with 5:43 left until halftime. Drew possessed a double-digit advantage of 34-23 heading into the locker room after they drained a half-court shot at the buzzer
  • The Greyhounds scored the first four points coming out of halftime but then Drew went on a 9-0 run before Yoegel made a couple of free throws over a four-minute stretch, to extend their lead to 47-27. Both squads would head into the fourth quarter with the Blue and Grey trailing 58-34
  • The Rangers would maintain a double-digit advantage for the remainder of the game

Inside the Numbers

  • Yoegel was the lone Greyhound to finish in double figures in scoring with 13 points and added four rebounds, an assist and a steal. Junior guard Madison Amy ended the night with nine points on three three-pointers to go with one steal
  • Osorio and Guarente each recorded six points apiece, with Osorio bringing down a team-high eight rebounds, a blocked shot and one assist while Guarente contributed two rebounds, two assists and a steal
  • Hezel and junior guard Emily Markowski both scored four points with Hezel grabbing two rebounds and a steal as Markowski recorded eight boards, three assists and a steal
  • Junior guard Morgan Amy had three points with a team-high four assists, three rebounds and a steal while sophomore guards Vicky Donovan and Rileigh Serroni, and freshman guard Mikayla Anderson tossed in two points each. Anderson added career-high three rebounds, two assists and a steal as Donovan brought down on board and an assist
  • Moravian shot 20-for-70 from the floor (28.6 percent) whereas Drew was 26-for-55 from the field (47.3 percent). The Greyhounds committed 17 turnovers but forced the Rangers into 21 miscues
