Greyhounds Tied for 13th after First Day of AARTFC Championships as Smurla Wins 10K

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. --- The Moravian University women's outdoor track & field squad is tied for 13th of 27 teams scoring points with ten points on the first day of the 2025 All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Outdoor Championships at Williams (Mass.) College Wednesday.

Event Champions

  • Junior Tara Smurla captured the 10,000-meter run with a time of 36:48.56, the seventh fastest time in school history, to garner ten points for the Blue & Grey 

Moravian Finishers

  • Junior Margie Rayne finished ninth in the discus with a toss of 38.31 meters (12-5-8)
  • Senior Rachael Goodman placed tenth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a PR time of 11:22.33, the fourth best time in program history, while senior Amber Poniktera took 11th in a PR time of 11:22.42, which ranks fifth all-time at Moravian
  • The Hounds' 4x400-meter relay team of seniors Bella DeMassa and Rylie Murphy, junior Shai Knight and freshman Emerson Beamer finished 15th in a time of 4:10.21
  • Junior Ali Haefele took 18th in the long jump with a leap of 5.20 meters (17-0.75) while freshman Emma Shafnisky finished 21st at 5.05 meters (16-7)
  • Freshman Becca Caird placed 20th in the javelin throw with a toss of 32.17 meters (105-6)
  • Sophomore Kayla O'Neil was 24th in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 19:27.01

Preliminary Results

  • Shafnisky took 13th in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles in 15.37 seconds
  • The Greyhounds' 4x100-meter relay squad of Shafnisky DeMassa, Knight and senior Abby Giamoni placed 15th in a time of 50.37 seconds
