Csencsits Collects 150th Career Hit but Greyhounds Fall in Landmark Conference Doubleheader at Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Moravian College baseball team fell to host The Catholic University of America, 11-1 and 12-1, in a Landmark Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The Cardinals would take a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the second, and Catholic doubled the edge to 2-0 with another run in the third inning. The Cardinals then scored five times in the fourth for a 7-0 advantage
  • Moravian would get on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning when graduate student third baseman Ian Csencsits doubled and scored on an RBI infield single by senior shortstop Michael Miceli 
  • Catholic answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth and then finished the scoring in the first game with a three-run sixth inning 

How It Happened – Game #2

  • Catholic jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, and the Cardinals added three runs in the second and one more in the third to take a 12-0 lead
  • The Greyhounds found the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning when Csencsits drew an RBI bases loaded walk that scored sophomore second baseman Chris Pow

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 19 hits between the two games with Pow going 3-for-6.
  • Csencsits had a pair of hits to become the 15th player in school history to reach 150 career hits
  • Miceli, freshman outfielder Matt Madigan, senior outfielder Thomas Philipps and junior third baseman David Bertolotti all had two hits
  • The Greyhounds used eight pitchers in the two games with freshman David Ciaccio recording three strikeouts and seniors Kyle Serman and Rodney Berger and sophomore Andrew Connallon all collecting two strikeouts
