BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University field hockey team scored a goal in each of the first three quarters to post a 3-1 non-conference win over visiting Alvernia University on John Makuvek Field Tuesday evening as the Greyhounds captured their fourth straight victory.

How It Happened

  • Moravian jumped out to a 1-0 lead in just the fourth minute of action as senior forward Ava Edwards knocked in a crossing pass from sophomore midfielder Sarah Bietka
  • The Golden Wolves answered in the 13th minute with a goal on a loose ball in the center of the circle to knot the score at 1-1 after 15 minutes of action
  • The Greyhounds retook the lead for good with just under two and a half minutes left in the first half when Biekta scored on a tip-in of a pass from Edwards during a penalty corner for the Blue and Grey
  • Moravian finished off the scoring with 45 seconds to go in the third quarter. Edwards sent freshman forward Sydney Anderson in on a breakaway, and Anderson was able to slip a shot between the goalkeeper's legs and into the cage

Quotable

  • "We were able to play an entire 60-minute game," noted Head Coach Sarah Dalrymple. "We wanted to attack and defend together, but also maintain our composure throughout the entire game. As a group, I thought we were able to do that pretty well. We defended penalty corners well, but we have to be able to limit the amount of penalty corners we are giving and continue defending outside the circle. If we continue to play as a unit, we can continue to play well and I'm excited to open conference play."

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian's four-match winning streak is the longest for the program since the 2013 season saw the Hounds win five straight contests from September 21 through October 2
  • Junior goalie Brooke Wilkinson recorded a pair of saves for the Greyhounds
  • Edwards had her team-leading ninth goal of the season, and she factored in all three goals with a pair of assists to give her 22 points on the season including 14 in the last two contests
  • Bietka recorded the first goal of her collegiate career for the Hounds while Anderson netted her fourth goal of the fall
