BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University field hockey squad continued to break records in 2021, setting a program record with its ninth consecutive win, as the Greyhounds defeated visiting and regionally-ranked Ramapo College of New Jersey, 3-2, in non-conference action on John Makuvek Field Wednesday evening to improve to 13-2 on the year.
How It Happened
- The squads played to a scoreless first quarter with the Roadrunners recording the only shot and earning the only penalty corner of the period
- The Hounds took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute when sophomore midfielder Sarah Bietka found the net on a penalty corner
- Ramapo knotted the score about five and a half minutes later to send the teams to the intermission knotted at 1-1
- Moravian moved back in front just 4:19 into the second half as junior midfielder Emily Wells knotted an unassisted goal
- This time it took the Roadrunners just under two minutes to make it a tie game again, and the score remained 2-2 through 45 minutes of action
- The Greyhounds would get the game-winning goal in the 58th minute as sophomore defender/midfielder Onalee Long scored off a pass from junior midfielder Maddie Call
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian won its ninth straight match, surpassing the previous program-best winning streak of eight contests set in 1992
- Ramapo held an 18-6 advantage in shots and a 13-4 edge in penalty corners
- Bietka's goal was her fifth of the season, and Wells also netted her fifth of the year
- Long's tally was her second of 2021 while Call recorded her sixth assist of the season
- Junior goalie Brooke Wilkinson recorded 10 saves, her third double-digit save match of the year. Wilkinson also extended her school record win total to 13
