Greyhounds Clinch Top Seed in 2021 Landmark Conference Tournament with Victory at Drew

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian University field hockey team clinched the top seed in the 2021 Landmark Conference Tournament as the Greyhounds defeated host Drew University, 6-1, in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon to close out the regular season.

How It Happened

  • The Rangers opened the scoring with a goal in the fourth minute of action
  • It took Moravian just 18 seconds to knot the score as junior midfielder Emily Wells netted an unassisted goal
  • The Blue and Grey took the lead for good in the tenth minute as freshman forward Sydney Anderson scored off of a pass from senior forward Ava Edwards
  • The Hounds would make it 3-1 before the end of the first quarter as freshman midfielder Bekkah Kehoe found the cage off of a pass from sophomore defender Onalee Long
  • Kehoe scored again in the 21st minute as she tapped in a pass from Edwards to make it 4-1 at the intermission
  • Wells tallied another unassisted goal in the 36th minute as Moravian led 5-1 after three quarters, and Anderson notched an unassisted marker in the 51st minute to finish off the scoring

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian won its tenth straight match, extending its school record streak that the Hounds broke on Wednesday with their ninth consecutive win
  • The Greyhounds finish the regular season at 14-2, four more wins than the previous program record, and the Blue and Grey are heading to the Landmark Conference Tournament for the first time and to the postseason for the first time since 1987
  • Junior goalie Brooke Wilkinson recorded four saves in the victory
  • Anderson now has 15 goals on the season while Wells has netted eight goals and Kehoe has four goals in 2021
  • Edwards has eight assists on the year as she became the third player in program history to reach 40 points in a season
  • Long recorded her second assist of the fall
