Moravian Drops Landmark Conference Game at No. 22 Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball team dropped a 73-45 decision to host and No. 22 Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference action Saturday evening.

How It Happened

  • The Blue Jays opened the scoring in the contest while graduate student forward Sam Osorio sank a jumper to knot the score at 2-2 after the first possession of the day. The Greyhounds took a 9-6 lead on a three-pointer from sophomore guard Lizzie Lustig at the 4:55 mark. Moravian pushed the edge to five points at 13-8 on a jumper from freshman guard Ellie Wallbillich, and the Blue & Grey were up 15-10 after a lay-up by sophomore guard Emma Altmire with 2:14 left in the quarter. However, Elizabethtown scored the final seven points of the period to lead 17-15 after ten minutes of action
  • The Blue Jays continued the run and pushed the advantage to 22-15 four minutes into the second quarter. The Hounds closed within three points on a lay-up from Osorio and a jumper by sophomore forward Lanie Herbert. Elizabethtown countered to make it a 29-19 spread with 2:24 left in the half. Moravian ran off seven straight points with a jumper from Herbert cutting the deficit to 29-26 at the intermission
  • The squads traded baskets over the first three minutes of the third quarter with a three-pointer by junior guard Juliana Vassallo making it a three-point game at 36-33 for the Blue Jays. Elizabethtown finished the period with an 18-5 run to lead 54-38 after 30 minutes of action
  • The Blue Jays continued to expand the edge throughout the fourth quarter

Inside the Numbers

  • Herbert tied her career-high with 12 points to lead the Greyhounds, and she added four rebounds and a pair of steals
  • Osorio recorded eight points, five rebounds and two steals while Altmire registered six points, three assists and two steals
  • Lustig posted five points and six boards while Vassallo contributed five points
  • Junior Jayda Cartagena tossed in four points to go with two assists while Wallbillich had three points and freshman guard Emma Pukszyn added two points and two rebounds
  • The Hounds shot 29-of-65 from the field, 3-for-7 on three-pointers and 2-for-6 at the foul line
  • The Blue & Grey forced Elizabethtown into 14 turnovers while committing just 11 turnovers
