BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball team fell to rival Muhlenberg College, 63-47, in the Hounds' final non-conference game of the 2024-25 season in Johnston Hall Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened
- The Greyhounds scored first on a pair of free throws by sophomore guard Lizzie Lustig, and junior guard Juliana Vassallo drained a three-pointer for a 5-0 edge two minutes into action. The Blue & Grey had a 7-4 advantage after a lay-up by graduate student forward Sam Osorio at the 6:09 mark while the Mules countered with five straight points. Lustig knotted the score at 9-9 on a jumper with 3:14 to go in the opening quarter; however, Muhlenberg would lead 16-11 after ten minutes of action
- The Mules stretched the advantage into double digits in the second quarter, taking a 31-19 lead to the locker room
- Moravian pulled within ten points at 37-27 with 5:38 remaining in the third quarter after a lay-up from Lustig, but Muhlenberg surged back ahead to lead 51-33 after 30 minutes of play
- The Mules controlled action in the fourth period, leading by as many as 21 points
Inside the Numbers
- Lustig led the Greyhounds with 15 points to go along with seven rebounds
- Sophomore guard Emma Altmire finished with nine points while Osorio had eight points, four boards and a pair of assists
- Senior forward Brielle Guarente contributed six points, five rebounds and two assists while Vassallo and freshman guard Sofia Squizziato both had three points with Vassallo grabbing eight rebounds and Squizziato pulling down three boards
- Junior guard Jayda Cartagena recorded two points, three rebounds and a pair of steals while sophomore forward Bellisima Lew had two rebounds and one point
- Freshman guard Ellie Wallbillich registered four rebounds and two assists while senior guard Mikayla Anderson pulled down three boards
- The Hounds shot 18-for-60 from the field, 5-for-30 beyond the three-point line and 6-for-12 at the foul line, and Moravian had a 44-40 edge on the boards including 18-13 on the offensive glass
