BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball program has named senior forward Brielle Guarente and junior guard Jayda Cartagena as its captains for the 2024-25 season.

"We are excited to announce our captains for the 24-25 season: Brielle Guarente and Jayda Cartagena," stated Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "Brielle has taken the next step as a leader on and off the court for us. She has been a steady, highly successful player since she stepped on the court as a freshman. It has been a pleasure to watch her grow into a leader. Brielle's work ethic and love for the game makes her the perfect leader on this team, as the team is a good mix of experienced upperclassmen with quite a few underclassmen, who need to follow Brielle's guidance. We are expecting a big year from Brielle, not only from a leadership position, but also on the court offensively and defensively.

"Jayda has grown up in so many ways and is deserving of this captain opportunity," Spirk continued. "She realizes that to be successful, you must put in the work and Jayda certainly has put in the work. Jayda is a natural leader as the coaches respect her, her teammates gravitate to her, and she has the attention of opposing coaches/players as well. As a junior, Jayda has proven her value to this team, and we are excited to watch Jayda lead and grow even more this season."

Guarente has played in 77 games during her career with 32 starts for the Hounds. She has contributed 553 points, 293 rebounds, 126 assists, 97 steals and 33 blocked shots in three seasons. Guarente was named to the 2024 Landmark All-Conference Second Team, and she has been selected to the 2023 and 2024 Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.

Cartagena has seen action in 48 games with four starts over the last two winters for the Greyhounds, and she enters the year with career totals of 209 points, 73 rebounds, 45 assists, 33 steals and three blocked shots at Moravian.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to start the 2024-25 schedule on Monday, November 11 with a non-conference game versus Immaculata University with tip-off at 6:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
