Hounds Drop Landmark Conference Game at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball squad dropped a 66-52 contest in Landmark Conference action at Juniata College Wednesday evening. 

How It Happened

  • The Eagles scored the opening basket while senior forward Brielle Guarente connected on a lay-up to knot the score at 2-2. The Hounds took an 8-6 lead on a jumper from junior guard Jayda Cartagena at the 5:47 mark. After Juniata tied the game at 8-8, Moravian ran off eight consecutive points to build a 16-8 advantage as Cartagena connected on another jumper with 2:13 left in the opening quarter. The Eagles netted the final seven points of the period to cut the Blue & Grey lead to 16-15 after ten minutes of action
  • Juniata began the second quarter with a basket while sophomore guard Emma Altmire gave the Greyhounds the edge back with a lay-up at the 8:12 mark. The contest saw two more ties including 22-22 after a lay-up from freshman guard Emma Pukszyn with 2:52 until the intermission. The Eagles finished the half with an 8-0 run to take a 30-22 advantage to the locker room
  • Juniata also netted the first seven points of the second half to build a 37-22 lead, and the Eagles kept the edge in double digits the rest of the game

Inside the Numbers

  • Sophomore forward Lanie Herbert led the Hounds with a career-high 12 points to go with nine rebounds while Pukszyn added a career-best 10 points with four boards and a pair of steals
  • Graduate student forward Sam Osorio recorded six points, nine rebounds and two steals while Guarente finished with six points, five rebounds and three assists
  • Cartagena also had six points with three steals while Altmire and junior guard Juliana Vassallo both had four points with Altmire adding two boards
  • Freshman guard Sofia Squizziato contributed two points and four rebounds while sophomore guard Lizzie Lustig posted eight rebounds, three steals and two points
  • Senior guard Mikayla Anderson had two boards as the Hounds finished the contest with a 48-44 edge in rebounds including 16-8 on the offensive glass
  • Moravian shot 22-for-69 from the field and 8-for-16 at the foul line
