BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball team led by three points at halftime before falling to visiting Juniata College, 69-57, in Landmark Conference action Saturday as the Greyhounds celebrated Senior Day and their annual Play4Kay game to raise money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in Johnston Hall to close out the 2024-25 season.
How It Happened
- The Hounds opened the scoring with a three-pointer from sophomore guard/forward Lizzie Lustig, and the Blue & Grey led 9-4 when graduate student forward Sam Osorio hit a lay-up at the 6:05 mark. Moravian pushed the advantage up to nine points at 19-10 when sophomore forward Lanie Herbert hit a short jumper with 1:13 on the clock. The Eagles drained a three-pointer to cut the Greyhounds' edge to 19-13 after ten minutes of action
- Juniata began the second quarter with an 11-2 run to build a 24-21 lead with 6:10 left in the opening half. The Blue & Grey tied the game at 30-30 on a jumper from Lustig and a late lay-up by Osorio send Moravian to the locker room with a 35-32 advantage
- The Eagles connected on a three-pointer to start the half to tie the contest again at 35-35 before a jumper from Lustig put the Greyhounds back in front by two points. Juniata countered with an 11-0 run to take a 46-37 edge and the lead for good. The Eagles extended the edge to 11 points, leading 56-45 after 30 minutes of play
- Juniata kept its advantage in double digits for most of the fourth quarter
- Prior to tip-off, Moravian honored seniors Mikayla Anderson and Brielle Guarente on their careers
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had two players in double figures with Lustig scoring a game-high 21 points to go with eight rebounds, two assists and two steals
- Osorio added ten points, seven rebounds and two assists to finish her career 24th in program history with 1,064 points, fifth all-time with 828 rebounds and tied for seventh with 107 blocked shots in 110 career games
- Herbert finished with seven points and six rebounds while freshman guard Emma Pukszyn contributed seven points, four rebounds, two assists and a pair of blocked shots
- Freshman guard Ellie Wallbillich recorded five points and three rebounds while Anderson added two points and two rebounds in her final career contest
- Junior guards Juliana Vassallo and Jayda Cartagena both registered two points and two assists while sophomore forward Bellisima Lew had one point
- The Hounds shot 21-for-56 from the field, 1-for-10 on three-pointers and 14-for-18 at the foul line. Moravian had a 38-31 advantage on the boards including 12-6 on the offensive glass
Wearing Pink
- The Greyhounds wore pink jerseys for the 18th consecutive year, and the Blue & Grey are 11-7 all-time when wearing pink
- Moravian has won the Kay Yow Cancer Fund's annual award for Division III for 16 straight year and heading into 2025, the Hounds have raised $233,118
