BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball squad fell to visiting Albright College, 67-58, in non-conference action in Johnston Hall Friday evening.
How It Happened
- The Lions scored the first five points of the night before sophomore guard Lizzie Lustig got the Hounds on the scoreboard with a lay-up two minutes into the contest. Albright led by as many as six points in the first quarter before the Blue & Grey cut the deficit to 16-13 after the first quarter
- Sophomore guard Jayda Cartagena opened the second period with a jumper to pull the Greyhounds within a point before Albright pushed the advantage back to five. Moravian countered and took a 23-22 lead with 4:20 left in the first half on a pair of free throws from sophomore guard Emma Altmire. However, the Lions used a 10-5 run to end the half and head to the locker room with a 32-28 edge after junior guard Juliana Vassallo beat the halftime buzzer with a put back basket
- Lustig and senior forward Brielle Guarente hit back-to-back jumpers to begin the second half as the Greyhounds knotted the score at 32-32. However, Albright scored 23 points over the final eight minutes of the third quarter while the Blue & Grey had just six points to give the Lions a 55-38 lead after 30 minutes of play
- Albright pushed the advantage to 20 points, 61-41, with just under six minutes remaining. Moravian tried to close the gap and would get the deficit under ten points in the final minute of action
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had three players score in double figures led by Vassallo, who tossed in a career-high 15 points to go with five rebounds
- Lustig netted 13 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists while Guarente finished with 12 points and seven boards
- Freshman guard Ellie Wallbillich had five points, two assists and two steals while Cartagena recorded four points and a pair of steals
- Junior forward Kania Day posted three points, four rebounds and two blocked shots while senior guard Mikayla Anderson had five rebounds and two points and Altmire registered two points, four boards and a pair of assists
- Freshman guard Sofia Squizziato had two points while freshman forward Kate Donaldson grabbed two rebounds
- The Hounds shot 22-of-67 from the field, 3-for-17 on three-pointers and 11-of 14 at the foul line, and the Blue & Grey held a 40-39 edge on the boards while forcing the Lions into 20 turnovers
