WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball team rallied from a 16-point second quarter deficit to tie the game late in the fourth quarter before falling to host Lycoming College, 63-57, in Landmark Conference action Saturday.
How It Happened
- The Warriors netted the first three points of the game while junior guard Juliana Vassallo countered with a three-pointer for the Hounds. Lycoming moved back ahead, and the Blue & Grey cut the deficit to 12-11 on a lay-up from freshman guard Emma Pukszyn with 1:30 left in the opening period. The Warriors held a 17-11 edge after ten minutes of action
- Lycoming tossed in the first ten points of the second quarter before sophomore guard Lizzie Lustig sank a jumper for the Greyhounds. Freshman guard Ellie Wallbillich connected on a late three-pointer to cut the Warriors advantage to 34-25 as the squads headed to the locker room
- Both squads struggled to score early in the second half with Moravian eventually getting within six points at 40-34 on a jumper by Lustig with 3:21 left in the period. Sophomore forward Bellisima Lew hit a jumper to cut the deficit to 43-38 after 30 minutes of play
- Lew hit a lay-up to begin the fourth quarter as the Hounds got within three points before the Warriors pushed the edge back to seven points at 49-42. The Blue & Grey countered with an 8-1 run to tie the game at 50-50 with 2:34 remaining when Lustig hit a jumper. However, Lycoming hit 11 of 13 free throws over the finals 2:16 to seal the victory
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had two players score in double figures with Vassallo netting a game-high 17 points to go along with three rebounds
- Lustig finished with 15 points, four boards and a pair of assists while sophomore forward Lanie Herbert added seven points, a career-high 16 rebounds and two assists
- Lew posted a career-high seven points with two boards and a pair of blocked shots while Wallbillich had five points, two rebounds and two assists
- Pukszyn scored three points and added five rebounds and three assists while graduate student forward Sam Osorio had three points and 11 boards to become the sixth player in program history to reach 800 career rebounds, now with 810
- The Blue & Grey shot 21-for-63 from the field, 5-for-18 on three-pointers and 10-for-20 at the foul line
- Moravian had a 51-38 advantage on the boards including 18-9 on the offensive glass
