Hounds Ready to Compete this Weekend

NEW YORK, N.Y. --- Moravian College has qualified 18 student-athletes, nine females and nine males, to compete at the 2016 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships being hosted by the ECAC at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y., on Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5.

Both Moravian squads continued streaks by winning Landmark Conference Championships last weekend at Susquehanna University, the ninth consecutive Landmark title for the women and eighth for the men in the nine years of the conference including seven straight championships.

The men have three student-athletes competing in two events while the other six will either be participating in solo events or relays. Leading the men's qualifiers is senior Gavin Bailey, who is the eighth best qualifier and slated to compete in the long jump for the Hounds. Also jumping for the Greyhounds is junior Kahron Walker, who will be competing in both the long jump and high jump. Graduate student Parker Munson and freshman Denzel Pettway are scheduled to throw in the shot put while Munson is also slated to be a part of the weight throw competition.

On the track, the Blue and Grey look to freshman John Spirk to repeat his stellar performance from the Landmark Conference Championship in the 60-meter hurdles this weekend. Also taking to the track will be junior Austin Gardener, who will be competing in 200 meter dash and also a part of the 4x200 meter relay team seniors Tyler Dwyer and John Barr and freshman Chris Antoine.

Leading the Greyhounds on the women's side is sophomore Melissa Cheong, who qualified fourth overall in the high jump and will also be competing in the 60-meter hurdles. Also competing in the field events for the Hounds will be junior thrower Jackie Finnegan in the weight throw and sophomore jumper Casie Cronk in the high jump.

Spearheading the runners for the Blue and Grey will be senior Corinne Glass, who will be competing in both the 200 and 400-meter dashes. In addition to Glass, junior Sarah Hughes will be competing in the one mile run and the Greyhounds also have an entered in the 4x400 meter relay that will consist of sophomore Monica Richardson, and freshmen Anna OsmanMaike Krischer and Tamara Suchan.

Also competing this Friday, March 4 at the Tufts Final Qualifier Meet are juniors Meg Brockett and Cory Taggert. Brockett will compete in the 5,000 meter run while Taggert is slated to run in the 800 meter run.
