Munson Sets Two School Records to Lead Greyhounds at Coach P Open

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field squad hosted the Annual Coach P Open Sunday at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field. The day was highlighted by the presentation of late Moravian Head Coach Doug Pollard's Middle Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame plaque to his family during the 7th Annual meet.

The Greyhounds had two individual winners on the day with senior Ryan Karnopp capturing the pole vault at 4.40 meters (14-5.25) and sophomore Michael Guarino winning the javelin with an ECAC qualifying toss of 56.00 meters (183-9) that moved him to 24th on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list as the top 20 males in each event head to the NCAA Championships in late May. Sophomore Robert Condo was second in the javelin with an ECAC qualifying mark of 53.68 meters 9176-1) while sophomore Kyle Allison was third at 53.49 meters (175-6).

Graduate student Parker Munson had a strong afternoon as he set the school record and placed fourth in the shot put with an ECAC qualifying toss of 15.56 meters (51-0.75), a mark that is 23rd on the TFRRS list. He broke the previous school record by 10.75 inches. Munson was also third in the discus with a personal best, school record and ECAC qualifying toss of 46.33 meters (152-0), and he placed tenth in the hammer throw at 42.85 meters (140-7). He passed his previous school record in the discus by 11 inches.

Junior Kyle Hagerty was sixth in the long jump at 6.40 meters (21-0) while freshman Scott Goodwin was sixth in the pole vault at 3.80 meters (12-5.5) and freshman Chris Cordi was seventh at the same height.

On the track, junior Austin Gardener was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 11.00 seconds, and he was third in the 200-meter dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 22.18 seconds.

Junior Cory Taggert placed fifth in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4z;04.09 while sophomore Andrew Mitchell was seventh in the 800-meter run in 1:59.42. Freshman Peter Milewski was seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:40.85. Junior Jamil Poole was ninth in the 100-meter dash in 11.61 seconds while senior Tyler Dwyer was tenth in 11.65 seconds.

Freshman John Spirk was third in the 110-meter high hurdles in an ECAC qualifying time of 15.70 seconds while senior Ryan Sickler was sixth in the finals in 16.13 seconds after qualifying in the preliminaries in 16.04 seconds. Spirk was also third in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.94 seconds while senior Gavin Bailey was ninth in 58.83 seconds.

Moravian will return to action on Friday and Saturday, April 15-16 when the squad hosts the annual Greyhound Invitational at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field. Action is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
