Men's Outdoor Track and Field Selected First in Landmark Conference Coaches Preseason Poll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track and field team is looking to hold onto the number one spot outdoors this spring. The Greyhounds were selected to finish first in the Landmark Conference coaches preseason poll finishing 17 votes ahead of Susquehanna University.

The squad has 12 of 27 returners that have earned All-Conference honors at some point in their career looking to embark on its seventh conference championship and possibly qualify for ECAC or Nationals. Most recently, junior Kahron Walker earned 2015 Landmark Field Athlete of the Year in both indoors and outdoors.

Joining Walker will be seniors Gavin Bailey and Ryan Karnopp, juniors Greg Cahill, Matt Barnett, Austin Gardener and Cory Taggert, and sophomores Kyle Allison, Esco Blaylock and Eric Morton all of whom grabbed either a first or second place at the 2015 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships last spring.

"It's nice to have the respect, but as I say every year it doesn't mean anything if you don't prepare and perform," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "We have some events on the team that aren't represented indoors which I think we'll excel at outdoors, most notably the javelin and discus. We had an NCAA qualifier last year from the javelin group, and we're hoping for much of the same this year. Many of the people who have done well for us indoors should continue the solid performances into outdoors. We've had two new school records in the throwing events, in addition to some athletes ranked in the top 50 in the NCAA so we hope to see that again in the spring. The aspirations are high for the team, we've just got to consistently put in the preparation both during, and outside of practice."

The Greyhounds will compete in their first outdoor track meet on Friday and Saturday, March 25 and 26 at the Lafayette College 7-Way Invitational.
