Cahill Tabbed as Landmark Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College junior thrower Greg Cahill has been tabbed as the Landmark Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.

Cahill won the shot put at the non-scoring Seahawk Shootout hosted by Wagner College at the new Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island with an ECAC qualifying distance of 15.14 meters (49-8.25). Cahill's first place toss was three and a half feet further than his previous career best in the event and currently has him ranked sixth in the nation on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list that determines those to compete at the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championships in March. It is also the sixth longest indoor shot put in school history. Cahill finished 10th place in the 35-pound weight throw with a mark of 13.03 meters (42-9) in his other event on Friday.

"We knew it was only a matter of time before Greg would start throwing marks like he did in the shot on Friday," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "Coach Jon D'Ottavio would reiterate that he's been looking great in the weight as well, so even though Friday didn't go as planned with that event, we expect him to make just as big of an impact as he did in the shot once we get into January and the remainder of the indoor season. We're certainly expecting him to at least make ECACs in both events this year."

Moravian will have six weeks off before the squad returns to action at the Ursinus College Invitational on Saturday, January 23, 2016 in Collegeville.
