Munson Named Landmark Conference Senior Scholar Athlete for Men's Indoor Track & Field

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College's Parker Munson has been named the 2016 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Men's Indoor Track & Field.

The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors. Chosen at the conclusion of each sport season, the six winter honorees are being announced this week and next week.

"Parker has taken his throwing at a new level this year, most notably starting at the meet at Monmouth, and then continuing through ECACs," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "On top of that, he's always been a strong student who has pursued opportunities out of the classroom including internships and conferences. He already has a great job lined up upon graduation so he's made the most of his time as both a student and athlete."

Munson completed his Bachelor's degree in accounting last May and is currently working towards a Master's of Business Administration with a focus in business analytics while finishing his final year of athletic eligibility for the Greyhounds.

This past February, Munson helped Moravian capture its seventh straight Landmark Conference Championship, and he was third at the meet in the shot put and fourth in the weight throw. Munson won the Landmark title in the shot put in 2015, and was runner-up in his first year with Moravian in 2014. He set the school record in the shot put with a toss of 15.70 meters (51-6.25) at the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Open on February 13 and bettered the mark to 15.77 meters (51-9) at the ECAC Championships, which is now second in the school record books.

Outdoors, Munson is the school record holder in the discus with a toss of 46.06 meters (151-1), and he won both the discus and shot put at the 2015 Landmark Conference Championships. Munson was also the Landmark gold medalist in the discus in 2014 and the runner-up in the event in 2013.

Munson, who attended Purdue University as a freshman but did not compete athletically, is a member of Moravian's Economics Honor Society, Omicron Delta Epsilon, as well as the Institute of Management Accountants Accounting Honor Society.
