Greyhounds Turn in 5 ECAC Qualifiers at Greyhound Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track and field teams competed in the 2016 Greyhound Invitational hosted at the Timothy Breidegam Track on the campus of Moravian College Friday night and Saturday during the day.

In the field the Hounds were led by graduate student Parker Munson, who grabbed a pair of fifth place finishes and ECAC qualifying throws in the shot put with a put of 15.01 meters (49-3) and discus throw of 44.10 meters (144-8). In the high jump junior Kahron Walker cleared 1.93 meters (6-4) for seventh place and a spot in the ECAC meet.

In the pole vault senior Ryan Karnopp vaulted 4.40 meters (14-5.25) while senior Gavin Bailey jumped 6.64 meters (21-9.5) in the long jump. In the javelin sophomore teammates Michael Guarino and Kyle Allison placed eighth and ninth with throws of 54.20 meters (177-10), which qualifies Guarino for ECACs, and 52.81 meters (173-3) for Allison.

On the track junior Cory Taggert led the Blue and Grey with a third place finish in the 800-meter run with an ECAC qualifying time of 1:54.06, which puts him just outside of the top-20 at 24th in the Track & Field Results Reporting System as the top 20 men in each event heading to the NCAA Championships in late May. Also running well for the Greyhounds was freshman Peter Milewski, who took a seventh place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Senior Austin Gardener ran a time of 22.40 in the 200-meter dash putting him in 11th place on the day while the 4x400-meter relay team of senior Tyler Dwyer, sophomore Esco Blaylock and freshmen Na'im Pretlow and John Spirk took home eighth with a time of 3:24.99.

Next up for the Greyhounds, Moravian will split the squad up to compete at either the East Stroudsburg University Invitational or the Ursinus College Invitational on Saturday, April 23.
