Men Win Three Events & Lead Landmark Championships after Opening Day

HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team holds a 26-point lead on Elizabethtown College, 76-50, after the opening day of competition at the 2016 Landmark Conference Championships being hosted by Juniata College.

The Greyhounds had three individual champions on the opening day of competition with senior Ryan Karnopp winning the pole vault at 4.25 meters (13-11.25), senior Gavin Bailey capturing the long jump at an ECAC qualifying distance of 6.95 meters (22-9.75) and graduate student Parker Munson taking first in the discus with an ECAC qualifying toss of 43.94 meters (144-2).

Freshman Chris Cordi was the runner-up in the pole vault at 3.95 meters (12-11.5) while freshman Scott Goodwin was third at 3.80 meters (12-5.5). Junior Kahron Walker was fourth in the long jump at 6.62 meters (21-8.75).

Munson was also the runner-up in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.56 meters (142-11) while junior Greg Cahill was fifth at 42.71 meters (140-1) and freshman Denzel Pettway placed seventh at 39.72 meters (130-4). Cahill had runner-up honors in the discus with a mark of 42.34 meters (138-11) while freshman Jon Anthony was sixth at 38.65 meters (126-10) and Pettway finished seventh at 38.32 meters (125-9).

In preliminary action on the track, junior Austin Gardener was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 11.04 seconds and the 200-meter in 22.44 seconds. Sophomore Eric Morton in 11.44 seconds and freshman Chris Antoine at 11.67 seconds also made the 100-meter dash final while seniors Tyler Dwyer at 22.99 seconds and John Barr in 23.22 seconds made the 200-meter dash final.

Dwyer also made the 400-meter dash final with a time of 50.63 seconds, and he'll be joined in the finals by sophomore Esco Blaylock who ran a time of 51.53 seconds. Freshman John Spirk had the top qualifying time in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.03 seconds, and joining him in the finals will be senior Ryan Sickler at 16.07 seconds and freshman Woodrow Battle in 17.28 seconds.

Action is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 8 in the second day of the Landmark Conference Championships at Juniata.
