Six Greyhounds Named to 2022 Landmark Baseball All-Conference Teams

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian University baseball team has had six players named to the 2022 Landmark Baseball All-Conference Teams led by graduate student first baseman Brett Moyer and junior catcher/designated hitter Derek Holmes, who were selected to the First Team.

The Greyhounds' All-Conference Second Team honorees were senior pitcher Eddie Olsen, senior outfielder Robert Roman, sophomore outfielder Matt Madigan and sophomore utility player Connor Wengryn. Moyer, Holmes and Olsen repeated as All-Conference selections while the other three earned Landmark All-Conference accolades for the first time in their careers.

The group helped the Greyhounds to a 22-18 record this season including an 8-10 mark in the Landmark Conference regular season.

Moyer, who was selected to the All-Conference Second Team last spring, posted a .347 batting average in 2022 with 50 hits, 22 runs, 15 doubles, two homers and 40 RBIs. He posted a .332 career average with 114 hits, 61 runs, 99 RBIs, which is tied for ninth in program history, 32 doubles, which is tied for tenth in school history, two triples, five homers and 47 walks to go with a .439 on-base percentage and a .481 slugging percentage in 116 career games. Moyer also recorded 688 putouts, fifth in school history, and 28 assists in his career.

Holmes, who was named to the All-Conference First Team a year ago, hit a school record .460 this spring with a school record 69 hits to go along with 34 runs, 15 doubles, a triple, four homers and 37 RBIs. Holmes, who began the season as a catcher before an injury forced him into the designated hitter role for the remainder of the season, has 102 hits, 53 runs, 18 doubles, a pair of triples, five homers, 56 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 74 career games with a .402 career batting average, a .465 on-base percentage and a .547 slugging percentage. Holmes has 135 putouts and 29 assists from behind the plate with 14 runners caught stealing including 13 this spring.

Olsen, who was honored on the All-Conference First Team in 2021, recorded a 3-4 mark on the mound this season with a save, two complete games and a shutout to go with a team highs of 43 strikeouts and 60.2 innings pitched. In his career, Olsen was 13-12 with a pair of saves, seven complete games, a shutout, 140 strikeouts, which is sixth in school history, in 172.1 innings pitched, ninth all-time, over 39 appearances with 29 starts.

Roman hit .341 this year with 45 hits, 31 runs, four doubles and 23 RBIs, and he also had five assists and 75 putouts in right field. Over his career, Roman collected 62 hits, 48 runs, seven doubles, 34 RBIs, four stolen bases and a .321 batting average in 82 career games. He also had 105 putouts and six assists as a Greyhound.

Madigan posted a .298 average with 50 hits, 42 runs, 11 doubles, 21 RBIs and 12 stolen bases, and he had 116 putouts and five assists in center field. Madigan has recorded 62 hits, 56 runs, 12 doubles, 27 RBIs and 16 stolen bases in 65 career games.

Wengryn had a .364 average with 20 hits, 12 runs, three doubles and three RBIs while seeing action in the outfield and behind the plate. In two seasons, Wengryn has 21 hits, 13 runs, four doubles and six RBIs in 28 career games.
