TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University freshman Shayaan Farhad has been named as the 2023 Landmark Conference Men’s Tennis Rookie of the Year while making the All-Conference First Team in singles and the Second Team in doubles, and he was joined on the All-Conference Second Team in doubles by sophomore Anthony Ronca.

The duo helped the Greyhounds to a 16-5 overall record as Moravian set a new program record for wins in a season, surpassing the previous mark of 13 victories, and a 5-2 slate in the Landmark Conference regular season to garner the third seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament before falling to second seed Goucher College in a semifinal match.

Farhad, who is the second Greyhound to receive Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year accolades after Ronca earned the honor last spring, posted a 10-9 record while playing first singles in his debut season.

“I am really proud of Shayaan,” stated Director of Tennis Mariana Freitas. “It is not easy to start at #1 singles and #1 doubles as a freshman. This is a fantastic achievement and fully deserved after an impressive first year. I am confident that he will continue to develop as a player and as a person, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for him.”

Farhad and Ronca combined for a 6-8 doubles record at first doubles this season. In addition to being the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year last season, Ronca also made the All-Conference First Team in singles and Second Team in doubles in 2022.

“Shayaan and Anthony faced a tough challenge playing at #1 doubles,” Freitas said. “They had a good year in their first time playing together at the college level. They won important matches for us, and it's great to see them being recognized by other coaches in our conference.”
