Hutchinson & Weiss to Serve as 2019 Moravian Women's Soccer Captains

Ashley Hutchinson and Paige Weiss named as 2019 women's soccer captains.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team has selected senior Paige Weiss and junior Ashley Hutchinson as captains for the 2019 season.

Weiss, a defender who was named as a captain for the second straight fall, was selected to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team last season for a second straight campaign. In her first three seasons, Weiss has started 48 of 49 matches she has played in and contributed six goals on 15 shots with one game-winning goal.

"Paige is a natural leader," commented sixth-year Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "It's very hard to find, but when you have a player in your program with those qualities it makes coaching that much easier. She has a strong voice and is our rock in the back line. I don't remember a day where Paige had a practice or game where she didn't work hard. Players look up to her consistent hard work and she helps set a bar on how to approach every practice and game."

Hutchinson is entering her third season as a midfielder for the Hounds, and she has one goal and one assist in 32 career matches heading into action this fall.

"Ashley is such a hard worker," Ykoruk said. "Her work rate on and off the field has elevated our program. Our program values the time off the soccer field and she immediately set a high bar on player development. She is our "silent" leader and every player respects what she brings to the table. She isn't much for words, but when she speaks, believe me the players listen."

The Greyhounds are slated to start the 2019 season on Friday, August 30 with a non-conference match versus Vassar (N.Y.) College beginning at 7:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
