Cassel Honored as Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week

Sara Cassel honored as Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College junior defender Sara Cassel has been honored as the Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.

Cassel helped the Greyhounds to a 2-0 week and found herself on ESPN Sportscenter with the number five highlight in the Top 10 on Thursday. In the Hounds' match versus rival Muhlenberg College on Wednesday evening on John Makuvek Field, Cassel scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory as she drove a 40-plus yard free kick into the upper right corner of the net in the first half. She then helped the Moravian defense post a 1-0 shutout win over Rutgers-Camden on Saturday as the Blue and Grey improved to 3-2 on the season.

"Sara had another great week," noted Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "She is one of the major reasons why we have had three shutouts in five games this year. She is always a threat on set pieces and her ability to drive a ball that far helps break pressure when we are locked in our defensive half. We all are excited for her accomplishments this week and they are well deserved."

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, September 18 when the squad hosts Albright College in a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
