Greyhounds Drop Landmark Conference Match at Susquehanna on Late River Hawks Goal

GETTYSBURG, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer squad saw a 2-1 lead slip away over the final 15 minutes as the Greyhounds fell at Susquehanna University, 3-2, in Landmark Conference action.

The Greyhounds, now 6-4 overall and 1-1 in Landmark Conference contests, saw the River Hawks take a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute that would carry through the rest of the first half. Moravian would eventually knot the score in the 54th minute when senior defender Paige Weiss knocked in a corner kick from sophomore forward Megan Chesney for her team-leading sixth goal of the season. The Hounds, who would go down a person in the same minute the goal was scored, took a 2-1 lead three and a half minutes later when junior defender Sara Cassel drove a free kick towards the far post and ricocheted it into the net for her third goal of the season.

The River Hawks netted the equalizer on a penalty kick goal in the 77th minute, and Susquehanna tallied the game winner in the 85th minute.

Moravian senior goalie Jamie Daly made three saves in the contest.

The Hounds are slated to return to the pitch on Saturday, October 12 when the squad heads to The University of Scranton for a Landmark Conference contest beginning at 4:00 p.m.
