Greyhounds Compete at USTA-ITA Southeast Regional

FEDERICKSBURG, Va. --- The Moravian College women's tennis team had three student-athletes competed at the 2012 United States Tennis Association-Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Mary Washington.

Senior Chelsea Ott competed in the Championship Draw and won her opening match in the round of 64 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Laura Dodson from Roanoke College.  Ott would be knocked out of the tournament in the round of 32 with a 6-0, 6-2 loss to fifth seeded Nandita Krishnan from Johns Hopkins University.

Sophomore Melissa Follett is competing in the Blue 3 Singles flight and won a pair of matches on Saturday. Follett topped Kristin McDowell from Roanoke, 6-1, 6-2, in the opening round before defeating Jabilyah Asante from Allegheny College, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Follett will play Mia Proctor from Virginia Wesleyan College in a semifinal match on Sunday, September 23rd at 12:00 p.m.

Follett is also playing in the Blue 1 Doubles bracket with junior Erica Venuti. The duo dropped its opening round match to Mackenzie Smith and Paige Weinberg from Mary Washington, 8-0. The duo will play in the consolation first round on Sunday at 8:00 a.m.

Venuti fell to Sydney Diamond from Dickinson College in the opening round of the Blue 5 Singles flight, 6-1, 6-2. Venuti is scheduled to compete in the consolation first round versus Morgan Parks from Randolph-Macon College on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
