Women's Tennis Rallies Past Scranton, 5-4

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's tennis team rallied from a deficit after doubles and also dodged the severe weather to defeat The University of Scranton, 5-4, Wednesday as the Greyhounds won their second straight match.

The Royals had a 2-1 lead after doubles with Moravian's lone point coming at first doubles with an 8-4 victory by sophomore Melissa Follett and junior Erica Venuti.

The Greyhounds rallied in singles action to capture four of the six contests and earn the victory. Follett won in straight sets at first singles while junior Katie Zien earned a straight second win at second singles. Junior Olivia Sonnabend earned a two-set victory at sixth singles.

The match was tied at 4-4 with the fourth singles match between Moravian freshman Brittany Hodge and Scranton's Nicole Mahaffey in the third set. Mahaffey was leading 3-2 with Hodge about to begin serve in the sixth game when the lightning, rain and hail moved into the area. The teams went to Winning Touch to finish the match with Hodge capturing four of the five games played to win the match.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 13th when the squad hosts Juniata College in another Landmark Conference match at Hoffman Courts starting at 9:00 a.m.
