Follett, Venuti Compete at USTA-ITA Southeast Regional

FREDERICKBURG, Va. --- Junior Erica Venuti and sophomore Melissa Follett of the Moravian College women's tennis team competed in the second day of the 2012 United States Tennis Association-Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional hosted by The University of Mary Washington.

The duo competed in the Blue 1 Doubles draw.  After dropping their opening match on Saturday, Follett and Venuti posted an 8-4 win over Mary Elise Dugan and Sarah Manter from Sweet Briar College Sunday in the first round of the consolation bracket. Follett and Venuti would then defeat Victoria Coffee and Sarah Grace McCormick from Hollins University, 9-7. The match was a semifinal match but the rest of draw was not completed giving Follett and Venuti the Blue 1 Doubles Consolation draw title.

Follett, competing in the Blue 3 Singles flight, had reached the semifinals on Saturday.  Sunday afternoon, Follett fell to Mia Proctor of Virginia Wesleyan College, 6-2, 6-4.

Venuti was in the Blue 5 Singles draw and competed in the consolation bracket on Sunday.  Venuti opened the morning with an 8-2 victory over Morgan Parks from Randolph-Macon College in the consolation opening round. Venuti then defeated Emily Meyers from Hollins, 8-5. Venuti's final match versus Alyssa Sell from Albright College in the Blue 5 Singles Consolation draw final was unplayed.

Moravian is scheduled to action on Thursday, September 27th when the squad hosts NCAA Division II East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in a non-conference match beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Hoffman Courts.
