Moravian Opens 2022-23 with Victory at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's tennis team opened the fall portion of the 2022-23 schedule with a 6-3 victory at Lycoming College Wednesday afternoon. 

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds led 2-1 after the doubles action. Senior Julianne Cassady and freshman Izzy Szmodis recorded an 8-6 victory at first doubles while the tandem of seniors Maddie Figiel and Cristina Merone earned an 8-1 win at second doubles
  • The Blue & Grey won four of the six singles matches to earn the overall team win. Cassady posted a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at first singles while Figiel garnered a 6-2, 6-2 victory at second singles. Szmodis earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at fourth singles to begin her career while sophomore Rose Lombardo had a 6-4, 4-6, 15-13 victory at fifth singles for the final point
  • Merone and junior Mara Stapleton each forced third sets in their singles contests before falling in 10-point tiebreakers
    Lycoming and Moravian will be conference foes beginning in 2023 when the Warriors join the Landmark Conference
