Greyhounds Post Third Shutout of the Season in Sweep of Albion at USTA National Training Center

ORLANDO, Fla. --- The Moravian University women's tennis squad posted its third 9-0 win of the season as the Greyhounds swept Albion (Mich.) College at the United States Tennis Association National Training Center in Orlando Monday morning. 

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds took all three doubles matches to jump out to a 3-0 advantage. The duo of junior Mara Stapleton and sophomore Rose Lombardo started the contest with an 8-1 win at third doubles while seniors Maddie Figiel and Cristina Merone won at second doubles by the same score. Senior Julianne Cassady and freshman Izzy Szmodis completed the sweep with an 8-3 triumph at first doubles
  • Moravian would capture all six singles matches as well with Merone off the courts first with a 6-1, 6-2 win at fourth singles and Stapleton capturing the winning team point with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at fifth singles. Szmodis posted a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at third singles while Cassady added a 6-1, 6-2 win at first singles. The Hounds closed out the match with Figiel winning 6-2, 6-1 at second singles and junior Megan O'Brien capturing a 6-3, 7-5 win at sixth singles
  • The Blue & Grey are 8-0 to start the season for the second time in three years and for the eighth time in program history
