Cassady & Merone Honored on College Sports Communicators Women’s Tennis Academic All-District

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University seniors Julianne Cassady and Cristina Merone have been honored on the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Women's Tennis Team for NCAA Division III schools.

To be eligible for CSC Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.50 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. Moravian has had 56 Greyhounds named CSC Academic All-Americans®.

By making the All-District Team, Cassady and Merone are now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for CSC Academic All-America® accolades, which will be announced Thursday, June 1. This year in the inaugural year for the Tennis Academic All-America Teams with the sport being part of the At-Large program until 2023.

The duo helped Moravian to an 18-4 record in 2022-23 to go with a 6-1 mark in Landmark Conference action as the Greyhounds earned the second seed in the 2023 Landmark Conference Tournament, winning in the semifinals before falling in the championship match.

Cassady, a nursing major with a 3.54 grade-point average, was selected the 2023 Landmark All-Conference First Team in both singles and doubles after being on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in singles and doubles in 2022. Cassady posted a 12-9 mark in singles action while playing in the top spot in the Moravian line-up, and she finished her career with a singles mark of 30-23. Cassady recorded a 16-6 mark at first doubles this season. She's been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List four times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society, an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete and a three-time member of Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.

Merone, a sociology major with a minor in psychology and a 3.76 grade-point average, earned a spot Landmark All-Conference Second Team in singles and doubles this year. She was 16-5 in singles action this season including a 13-3 mark at fourth singles, and Merone posted a career mark of 36-5. She recorded a 20-2 slate at second doubles this season, setting a new program record for wins as part of the first doubles tandem in school history to earn 20 wins in a single season. Over the last two years, the Merone and partner Maddie Figiel are 34-2 in doubles action. Overall, Merone was 48-5 in doubles action in her career, the second most wins in program history with a .906 winning percentage that ranks fourth. Merone been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List seven times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society, an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete and a three-time member of Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.
