BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The second seeded Moravian University women's tennis squad topped third seed Goucher College, 5-0, in a Landmark Conference Semifinal match Wednesday played in Timothy Breidegam Fieldhouse due to the weather.
How It Happened
- The Greyhounds swept the doubles action to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The tandem of senior Julianne Cassady and freshman Izzy Szmodis earned the first point with an 8-3 win at first doubles while the duo of seniors Maddie Figiel and Cristina Merone posted an 8-5 triumph at second doubles. The win for Figiel and Merone was their 19th of the season, giving the tandem the school record for doubles wins in a season with a 19-2 mark, passing Marnie Heller and Corrine Kleinsmith's mark of 18 victories (18-1) set in 1998
- Junior Mara Stapleton and sophomore Rose Lombardo finished the sweep as they rallied from down 5-1 to earn an 8-7 (10-8) victory at third doubles for the 3-0 advantage
- Szmodis pushed the edge to 4-0 as she won 6-1, 6-4 at third singles while Merone clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at fourth singles. In the postseason, a match ends when one team reaches the required five team points. When Merone finished off her contest, both Cassady and Figiel were in the third sets of their singles matches
