Greyhounds Fall to Drew In 2023 Landmark Conference Championship as Figiel & Merone Become First Doubles Duo to 20 Wins in a Season in Program History

MADISON, N.J. --- The second seeded Moravian University women's tennis team fell to top seed and host Drew University, 5-1, in the 2023 Landmark Conference Championship match Saturday. 

How It Happened

  • The Rangers won the first two doubles contests to finish with victories at first and third doubles. The Greyhounds earned a point to cut the deficit to 2-1 after doubles play. The senior tandem of Maddie Figiel and Cristina Merone became the first duo in program history to win 20 doubles matches in a season with an 8-6 triumph at second doubles to finish the year with a 20-2 doubles slate
  • Drew captured the first three singles matches to finish to reach the five winning team points with victories at first, third and fourth singles
  • Moravian was playing in the Landmark Conference Championship match for the fourth straight season that the tournament has been held, and eighth time overall since the conference began in 2007-08, and the Greyhounds have five Landmark Conference titles and 13 overall conference championships
