ORLANDO, Fla. --- The Moravian University women's tennis team rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles action and a 4-3 deficit in singles action to post a 5-4 non-conference victory over Adrian (Mich.) College to start the Greyhounds' trip to the United States Tennis Association National Training Center in Orlando, Florida Sunday evening.
How It Happened
- The Bulldogs led 2-1 after doubles action with triumphs at first and third doubles. The Hounds' lone doubles win game from the tandem of seniors Maddie Figiel and Cristina Merone at second doubles by an 8-3 score
- The Blue & Grey rallied with the bottom four singles matches going in favor of Moravian to complete the comeback and keep the Greyhounds undefeated
- Freshman Izzy Szmodis evened the contest at 2-2 with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at third singles while junior Mara Stapleton put the Hounds ahead 3-2 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at fifth singles. Adrian would move back in front, 4-3, with wins at first and second singles before sophomore Rose Lombardo evened the team score at 4-4 with a 7-5, 6-0 triumph at sixth singles
- Merone would need three sets in her fourth singles contest to secure the win for Moravian. She dropped the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4), before winning the second set 6-3 and taking the final set 10-7 to claim the winning team point
