TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University senior Cristina Merone as been named as the Landmark Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.

Merone earned wins at both second doubles and the winning team point at fourth singles as the Greyhounds began their spring break trip with a 5-4 come-from-behind win over Adrian (Mich.) College at the United States Tennis Association National Training Center in Orlando, Florida. Merone partnered with senior Maddie Figiel for an 8-3 win at second doubles. Merone would need three sets in her fourth singles contest to secure the win for Moravian. She dropped the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4), before winning the second set 6-3 and taking the final set 10-7 to claim the winning team point.

"Cristina is very impressive in all areas," commented Director of Tennis Mariana Freitas. "She secured our only doubles win in the match on Sunday alongside senior Maddie Figiel. The match was tied at 4-4, and it came down to Cristina's single match. Fortunately, Cristina acts calm, cool, and collected under pressure. We're really proud of her for battling it out in the third set to give our team a win."

The Greyhounds, who are 8-0 on the season, are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, February 28 in a non-conference game with Calvin (Mich.) College beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the USTA National Training Center to finish out the squad's spring break trip.
