TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University graduate student Shane Mastro has been honored as the Landmark Conference Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.
Mastro set both meet and facility records at the Nazareth Conference Challenge Cup as he won the shot put with an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field qualifying distance of 14.93 meters (48-11.75) to earn 10 points for the Hounds, who placed seventh of 11 teams in the meet. Mastro also added four points for a fifth place in the weight throw with a mark of 14.78 meters (48-6).
"Shane had a solid weekend competing at the Nazareth Challenge Cup in Rochester, New York," commented Assistant Throwing Coach Jon D'Ottavio. "He had a season-best mark in the weight throw and another winning throw in the shot put. Overall, he's been rounding back into form since we came back from winter break and even though we're in a pretty heavy block of training he's still throwing some really solid distances as well as having some great training sessions. It'll be exciting to see where he's at in a few weeks when we backoff the heavy lifting and he's rested."
The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Saturday, February 5 when the squad competes in the Alvernia University PLEX Shootout beginning at 9:30 a.m.
