Greyhounds Tied for First and Win One Event on Opening Day of 2022 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships

HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's outdoor track & field squad is tied for first place after the opening day of action at the 2022 Landmark Conference Championships being hosted by Juniata College. The Greyhounds and Susquehanna University both have 50 points after the five scored events on Saturday.

Event Winner

  • Graduate student Shane Mastro won the discus with an All-Atlantic Region qualifying toss of 45.11 meters (148-0) to pick up 10 points for the Greyhounds

Top 8 Scoring Results

  • Junior Eric Keck earned the first points of the meet, scoring four points for a fifth-place finish in the javelin with a toss of 43.47 meters (142-7)
  • Senior Dominic DeRafelo placed sixth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:04.58 to garner three points
  • Moravian scored 15 more points in the discus in addition to the 10 for Mastro's win with three other Greyhounds placing in the top five. Junior Dan Jenkins earned six points for a third place and AARTF qualifying toss of 41.35 meters (135-8) while senior Timothy King garnered five points for a fourth place mark and AARTF qualifying distance of 41.09 meters (134-9) and junior Adam Gildea received four points for a fifth place toss of 39.89 meters (130-10)
  • The Hounds finished the night with 18 points in the 10,000-meter run as the squad was led by freshman Nathan Hajel, who garnered eight points for a runner-up finish in an AARTF qualifying time of 32:30.20. Junior Liam Duffy was third to receive six points for an AARTF qualifying time of 32:47.20 while sophomore Josh Mangini took fifth in a PR time of 33:07.18 for four points

Preliminary Results

  • Freshman Trevor Gray was fourth in the 100-meter dash preliminaries in a time of 11.48 seconds to advance to Sunday's final while sophomore Jared Santos also advanced with a time of 11.57 seconds
  • Gray won his heat and had the third fastest time in the 200-meter dash preliminary to move onto the final on Sunday as he clocked in at 23.08 seconds
  • Junior Ethan Cherubin placed tenth in the 110-meter high hurdle preliminaries in 18.11 seconds
