TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University senior distance runner Shane Houghton and graduate student thrower Shane Mastro have been honored as the Landmark Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for their performances last weekend.

Houghton took second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Muhlenberg College Invitational in an All-Atlantic Regional Track & Field qualifying and PR time of 9:42.52. The time also ranks 42nd nationally on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list in the event.

"Shane is coming back from a foot injury that bothered him since indoor AARTFCs so we agreed to be a little more cautious in his first race back," commented Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "Considering that, things went extremely well. A key to Saturday was improving on an aspect of his water barriers we've been working on for a long time. As that continues to improve, along with more confidence coming back from his injury, we know his times will drop appreciably. It was a great "rust buster" for his first meet back, but we also expect that to just be the start of where his season is going to go."

Mastro won the discus at the Muhlenberg with an AARTF qualifying and PR distance of 45.80 meters (150-03), which is 23rd on the TFRRS list nationally. The mark is also the fourth best in program history for the Greyhounds. The top 20 males in each event and the top 16 relay squads in each race on the final TFRRS list will compete in the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships.

"Shane has carried over his success from the indoor season to the beginning of outdoors," noted Throwing Coach Jonathan D'Ottavio. "To throw a personal best this early in the season in the discus speaks volumes to the kind of shape Shane is in and his preparation. We are still working on technique every practice as he continues to transition from the indoor implements to the outdoor ones. I'm looking forward to seeing what Shane can throw once he really has the technique down and lets one rip."

The Hounds are slated to return to action on Friday and Saturday, April 8-9 at the Lehigh University Invitational.
