Crooks Named Landmark Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week

Amanda Crooks named Landmark Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College sophomore sprinter Amanda Crooks has been named the Landmark Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.

Crooks set a school record in the 60-meter dash in her first collegiate competition for the Greyhounds at the Lehigh University Fast Times Before Finals this past Saturday at Rauch Fieldhouse. Crooks was second in the race in a school record time of 7.83 seconds in the finals after tying the school mark of 7.88 seconds in the preliminaries, and she also placed seventh in the 200-meter dash in 27.11 seconds.

"We figured she'd be able to post a pretty special time in the 60, but anticipating and actually doing it when it counts are two different things," stated Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "We've had some inconsistencies with her starts in practice, and looking at Saturday, there is still work to be done with her set position and hip extension out of the blocks, but for her first race in 16 months, I think we can be really happy with how she did and competed against the field especially in the final. It's a new school record, but we're focused on bigger things and trying to get her to NCAAs. Realistically, we need to drop about another tenth of a second, but with some technical corrections and continuing to work in the weight room and her acceleration, we're confident she can get there."

The Greyhounds will return to action in five weeks when the squad hosts the Moravian Indoor Meet at Lehigh's Rauch Fieldhouse on Saturday, January 18 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
