Danoski Honored as Landmark Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week

Carly Danoski honored as Landmark Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Carly Danoski has been honored as the Landmark Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.

Danoski, who earned the honor for the second time in three weeks, won the 800-meter run at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational on Saturday to lead the Greyhounds at the non-scoring meet. Danoski's winning time of 2:15.53 was her fastest of the season in the event, and it is also the second-best time in school history. The time qualified Danoski for the 2020 All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championships in March, and it is also fifth on the current Track & Field Results Reporting System list. The top 20 times in each individual event will compete in the NCAA Division III Championships in March as well. In addition to her individual time, Danoski ran the anchor leg of Moravian's 4x400-meter relay on Saturday, helping the Hounds finish fifth with a time of 4:18.12.

"Although we're obviously happy Carly keeps winning her individual races, the main objective is to get her to NCAAs and we don't feel safe with either her mile or 800 time yet," stated Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "In the first three meets, she's led every race for at least the last 80% which is nearly impossible to run to your full potential like that so over the next two weeks we're doing the best we can to find a few races where she can get pulled along a little more in the last 1/3 of the race.

"It did help this past weekend when from about 400-600m Sarah Rudge from Ithaca wound up getting up on her heels so Carly could get a little assist from that, but it's still not the same as being able to draft off someone or having a carrot to chase, so-to-speak, late in the race," continued Baumann. "We're toying with a few options at some banked tracks the next few weeks to hopefully get her the competition to push her into the low 2:teens for the 800, or flirting with the 5:00 barrier in the mile, which she'll likely need in order to make it to North Carolina in March."

Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, February 8 at the Alvernia University Plex Shootout.
