Carly Danoski selected as 2020 Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field Senior Scholar-Athlete

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Carly Danoski has been selected as the 2020 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Women's Indoor Track & Field.

The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators and sports information directors. Chosen at the conclusion of each sport season, the six winter honorees are being announced this week.

This winter, Danoski captured three Landmark Conference Indoor Championships, winning the 800-meter run, the mile run and as part of the 4x400-meter relay team. She was selected as All-Mideast Region in all three events by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for being in the top five in each of the individual events and the top three in the relay among all of the competitors in the region. Danoski is ranked fifth in the nation in the mile with a school record time of 4:54.78 that is converted to 4:57.70 due to being run on a banked track for NCAA qualifying in the Fastrack National Invitational on Friday, February 14. She will run in the event at the 2020 NCAA Division III National Championships on Friday, March 13.

Danoski is an eight-time Landmark Conference Indoor Champion, capturing the title in the 800-meter run in 2018, 2019 and 2020, the mile run in 2019 and 2020 and the 4x400-meter relay in 2018, 2019 and 2020. She earned All-Conference Second Team honors as a freshman in the 4x400-meter relay in 2017 when she also finished third in the 400-meter dash and the 11th in the 800-meter run at the Landmark Championship meet. Danoski is making her second trip to the NCAA DIII Indoor Championships after finishing 16th in the 800-meter run preliminaries in 2020.

Heading into the outdoor season, Danoski has four Landmark Outdoor titles – the 800-meter run in 2018 and 2019, the 1,500-meter run in 2019 and the 4x400-meter relay in 2019, and she is a three-time All-Conference Second Team honoree in the 1,500-meter run in 2018, the 4x400-meter relay in 2018 and the 800-meter run in 2017. Danoski has also competed at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships twice in the 800-meter run, finishing 18th in 2019 and 19th in 2018. She earned a pair of Landmark All-Conference Second Team accolades in cross country with tenth place finishes in 2018 and 2019.

Off the track, Danoski has maintained a 3.90 GPA in environmental science with a minor in French. Danoski has made Moravian's Dean's List six times, and she is a three-time selection to the Landmark Conference Fall and Winter Academic Honor Rolls and twice to the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll. Danoski is also a member of Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. She also participates in Emerging Leaders, the Greyhound Leadership Program, is a writing center tutor and a writing fellow on campus. She was also selected to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

"Carly has always been an exceptionally bright, disciplined, and focused student since high school and carried that over here at Moravian, making the Dean's List every semester," noted Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "In addition to that, she has routinely sought out-of-the classroom opportunities to expand her knowledge and practical experience. She spent the summer here at Moravian working on independent research projects with a faculty member, and is in the midst of presenting her research in the latter parts of this semester.

"Athletically, it's pretty clear she's had an extraordinary winter season, setting the Landmark record in the mile and winning three events at the Championship meet," continued Baumann. "Overall, Carly is exceptionally dedicated, focused, and driven both athletically and academically, making her an outstanding representative of Moravian as a student-athlete."

Danoski is Moravian's 33rd Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete since the conference began in 2007-08, and she is the third women's indoor track & field student-athlete to be honored and seventh overall selection from the Moravian women's track & field program.
