Danoski Earns Third Straight Landmark Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week Honor

Carly Danoski wins third straight Landmark Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Carly Danoski has earned her third straight Landmark Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.

Danoski broke her own school record in the mile run at the Fastrack National Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York last Friday by nearly two and a half seconds, winning the Invite mile run in a time of 4:54.78, which is also a new Landmark Conference record and fifth in the nation on the TFRRS list. Danoski also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 that finished seventh in a time of 4:05.72, the third fastest time in school history.

"When Carly went to Ocean Breeze the first time two weeks ago, she needed to develop a little more confidence in her abilities for the mile," commented Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "She went from last to nearly first throughout the race, which cost her some time, but again, it allowed her to gain some trust in what she was able to run, which she then applied to this week. She went out much closer to the front on Friday, read the field and at about 1,000m took charge of the race to lead all the way to the finish. She closed in 2:23 for her last half mile, so I think she's still got a lot more in her for the mile yet, she may even be able to lower her Landmark record under 4:50 in the perfect race. Either way, it was another good showing and a reiteration that she can be a major contender in this event when we get to the championship season in the next few weeks."

The Greyhounds have a pair of meets scheduled for Friday, February 21 with part of the team heading to the Penn State University Tune-Up and the rest of the squad competing in the Kutztown University Last Chance Qualifier.
