BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball squad has named seniors Victoria Kauffman and Alexis Szaro as its captains for the 2019 season.
"I'm very excited to announce that Victoria and Lexie are our 2019 captains for the volleyball squad this year," commented 27-year Head Coach Shelley Bauder. "Lexie has done a great job being a vocal leader on the court and is someone who is constantly hustling and pushing others to be their best. Victoria has successfully run our offense the past three years and has a calming presence on the court."
Kauffman, a setter heading into her fourth season, enters the fall fourth in school history with 3,306 career assists and 1,332 assists shy of the school record, and she has 137 career service aces, needing eight to crack into the top 10 all-time. Kauffman has also recorded 650 digs, 138 kills and 73 blocks in 99 career matches as she enters the fall needing 350 digs to become just the fourth player in school history with 1,000 assists and 1,000 digs.
Szaro is serving as a team captain for the second straight fall and is entering her fourth season as a defensive specialist/libero. She has 703 digs, 68 service aces and 33 assists during 98 matches in her first three years with the Hounds.
Moravian is slated to start the 2019 campaign on Friday, August 30 when the squad hosts the opening day of the 17th Annual Greyhound Premiere Invitational with matches versus Penn State-Harrisburg at 4:00 p.m. and Grove City College at 8:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
