Moravian Competes in Opening Day of Kean (N.J.) University Invitational

UNION, N.J. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team competed in the opening day of the Kean (N.J.) University Invitational Friday, falling to the host Cougars and New York University by 3-0 scores.

In the opener, Kean posted set wins of 25-13, 25-13, 25-14. Sophomore middle blocker Jess Appleton led the Greyhounds with seven kills while sophomore middle blocker Renee Mapa added five kills. Sophomore outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach contributed eight digs and three kills while freshman setter Taylor Morley and senior setter Victoria Kauffman each had eight assists with Morley adding five digs. Senior defensive specialist Alexis Szaro had six digs and a pair of service aces while freshman defensive specialist Gabby Mancini had four digs. Freshman setter Natalie Matos contributed five digs while sophomore outside hitter Sela Herber had three digs and two kills.

NYU earned set wins of 25-17, 25-15, 25-8 in the second match of the day. Mapa recorded seven kills to lead Moravia while Appleton, Dreisbach and Herber all had four kills with Dreisbach adding seven digs and three assists and Herber having five digs. Kauffman posted 10 assists and four digs while Matos and Mancini each contributed 10 digs. Morley added five assists while Szaro had three digs.

The Greyhounds will compete in the second day of the Kean Invitational on Saturday, September 14 with matches versus Lycoming College at 10:00 a.m. and Gettysburg College at 12:00 p.m.
