Hounds Split Again on Second Day of 17th Annual Greyhound Premiere Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball squad split two matches for the second consecutive day in the 17th Annual Greyhound Premiere Invitational Saturday in Johnston Hall, falling to Misericorida University, 3-1, before defeating Alvernia University, 3-0, in the final match of the tournament.

In the first contest against the Cougars, Misericordia won the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-16, before the Hounds posted a 25-18 win the third set. The Cougars would take the fourth set, 25-22, to clinch the match. Sophomore outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach led the Blue and Grey with 12 kills, 15 digs and four service aces while sophomore middle blocker Jess Appleton had 11 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Sela Herber contributed nine kills, seven digs and three blocks while sophomore middle blocker Renee Mapa added six kills and a pair of blocks. Freshman setter Natalia Matos had a team-high 20 assists to go with seven digs while freshman outside hitter Gabby Mancini contributed 13 digs and three kills. Senior defensive specialist Alexis Szaro had 12 digs while freshman setter Taylor Morley added 13 assists and two kills. Senior setter Victoria Kauffman had four assists while freshman defensive specialist Gabby Mineo contributed three service aces.

In the final match of the tournament, Moravian opened its sweep of Alvernia by taking the first set, 40-38. The Hounds would go onto to win 25-16 and 25-13 in the other two sets. Dreisbach once again paced the Blue and Grey with 14 kills, 12 digs and seven service aces while Appleton, who was named to the All-Tournament Team for her play of the opening four matches of the season, had 10 kills. Herber contributed nine kills and seven digs while Mapa had eight kills and a pair of blocks. Mancini added 13 digs and five kills while Morley ran the offense with 28 assists to go alone with four digs and three service aces. Mineo contributed seven digs while Szaro had six digs and Kauffman added 12 assists and five digs.

The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Wednesday, September 4 in a non-conference match at Mahattanville College beginning at 7:00 p.m.
