Greyhounds Top Penn State Berks on Senior Night in Johnston Hall

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team posted a 3-1 non-conference victory over visiting Penn State Berks in Johnston Hall Tuesday evening as the Greyhounds celebrated Senior Night in their final home contest of the 2019 season.

The Hounds, who earned their tenth win of the year, opened the match with a 25-14 victory in the first set. The Nittany Lions came back and took the second set 25-19 to even the match before the Blue and Grey won both the third and fourth sets by identical 25-17 scores.

Sophomore middle blocker Jess Appleton was one of three Greyhounds with nine kills, and she added three blocks while sophomore outside hitter Sela Herber also had nine kills with 12 digs and sophomore outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach added nine kills, 11 digs and a pair of blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Renee Mapa contributed six kills and five blocks while junior right side hitter Emerson Gieryic had four kills and two digs.

Senior setter Victoria Kauffman had a team high 32 assists to go with eight digs, four kills and two service aces, and she head into her final weekend ranked third in school history with 3,822 assists and sixth with 166 service aces in her career. Senior libero Alexis Szaro contributed 11 digs and three assists in the contest and has 888 career digs with two matches to play. Freshman defensive specialist Gabby Mancini had six kills and two service aces versus the Lions while freshman setter Natalia Matos and freshman defensive specialist Gabby Mineo each had four digs with Matos adding a pair of service aces.

Moravian is scheduled to close out its 2019 season on Saturday, November 2 when the squad travels to No. 21 Juniata College for a Landmark Conference match beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Greyhounds will also play The Catholic University of America in Huntingdon on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in the final match of the campaign.
