Greyhounds Participate in Second Day of Kean Invitational

UNION, N.J. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball squad played in the second day of the Kean (N.J.) University Invitational Saturday, falling to Lycoming College, 3-0, and Gettysburg College, 3-1.

In the opener Saturday morning, the Hounds dropped set scores of 25-10, 25-16, 25-16 to Lycoming. Sophomore outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach had five kills and nine digs while sophomore outside hitter Sela Herber added four kills and five digs. Senior Victoria Kauffman  paced the Moravian offense with 13 assists to go with eight digs and a pair of kills while sophomore middle blocker Jess Appleton had three kills. Freshman defensive specialist Gabby Mancini had nine digs for Moravian while senior defensive specialist Alexis Szaro contributed three service aces and three digs and junior right side hitter Emerson Gieryic added six digs

The Hounds would take the first set against the Bullets, 25-23, before Gettysburg won three straight sets, 28-26, 25-18, 25-11 to capture the match. Kauffman, who was selected to the All-Tournament Team, led the Blue and Grey with 30 assists to go with 12 digs and a pair of service aces. Dreisbach contributed 12 kills, 15 digs and two service aces while sophomore middle blocker Renee Mapa had eight kills. Appleton added seven kills and four blocks while Herber had six kills, four digs and three service aces. Szaro added seven digs while freshman setter Natalia Matos had six service aces.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, September 17 in a non-conference match at rival Muhleberg College beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Allentown.
